Kasey Perry on Her Quest

Kasey Perry-Glass joins the ranks of international elite equestrian athletes in the pursuit of sustained excellence and a medal-winning future.

In her own unique style, she pairs her talent, her exuberance, and her laser-sharp determination with the dedication of her solid team of family and friends that believe in her.

On the one hand, she is a tough, focused competitor with determination and work ethic to succeed, whether it be in marathon racing or Grand Prix dressage. On the other hand, sportsmanship and insight into building lasting bonds are inherent in her nature. Raised in a close-knit family with five siblings, Kasey lives by teamwork with her horses, family, coach, and fellow riders.

With her horses she has the skill, timing and patience to build confidence and trust, to bring about partnerships with horses who rise to the top of their ability.

Horses came into her life at age five when she joined her sisters and mother to ride at a small community barn in Northern California. She soon saw how much fun her barn friends were having jumping, discovered three-day eventing and trained with eventers Carmela Richards and Olympian Gina Miles. At 14, she began to put more focus in dressage and trained with Gina Duran at Topline Training.

As she was earning a degree in business entrepreneurship at California State University, Sacramento, she began training with Christophe Theallet. Kasey also has been fortunate to work with Anne Gribbons, and Andreas Helgstrand.

Today, Kasey works closely with Olympian Debbie McDonald both at their Wellington, Florida, winter base and in Hailey, Idaho, at the Thomas’s River Grove Farm. She began training with Debbie during the 2015 European tour with her horses.

The stars of her barn are her two remarkable Grand Prix horses, 13-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding Goerklintgaards Dublet (Diamond Hit-La Costa, Olympic Ferro) and her 17- year-old Danish Warmblood mare Trøstruplund’s Scarlet (Don Schufro-Ramona, Blue Hors Romancier), both whom enjoy Kasey’s hands on care, from grooming and turn out to feeding and all daily work. She praises Scarlet for all she has learned from the mare and raises her glass to Dublet, her brilliant partner. “From the moment we bought Dublet, the Olympics was our goals. We knew he was special.”

Dublet has blossomed under Kasey’s mindful care, ensuring his health and happiness, giving him both consistency and variety, spicing up daily work with trail and track rides.

“Kasey has worked hard to fulfill Dublet’s potential and I expect they will go far.” – Debbie McDonald

“Kasey is the all-American Girl and you can tell that she has been well-raised! She is humble, hardworking, approachable and really grateful for all that comes her way.” – Debbie Witty, Trilogy Saddles

Kasey’s success is a family affair. They call themselves “Team Believe” and everyone is involved from her mom Diane Perry, father Bob Perry, five siblings and husband Dana Glass.

“We form this team behind the horses, and we call ourselves Team Believe, and it’s true that you have to believe in what you’re doing to make it work.”

Training Philosophy

Today, Kasey trains and successfully competes Diane Perry’s three very distinct horses, a testimony to her talent for evaluating a horse’s individual needs.

I take pride in helping a horse to relax and be comfortable.

I keep it simple and get to the point. Suppleness and relaxation must come first in order for the more demanding work to become easy and beautiful. A horse that is loose and relaxed can become a big mover.

What I do, rather than what I say, shows who I am as an athlete.

Because I have the tools of a competent rider, I  have the passion without the emotion which gives me the mental strength to teach my horses and to develop them into happy, willing competitors.
